While many of the state-bred stakes races at Charles Town this year have long been decided as are, perhaps, the various divisional honors among state-bred runners and horse of the year, a quartet of talented West Virginia-bred horses arrived in Maryland on Saturday afternoon to compete in open stakes and allowance races that have typically been tough tasks. But the rainy, sloppy conditions at Laurel Park hardly proved detrimental to the invading West Virginia-breds.
