Top seed Ekaterina Makarova suffered a disastrous start to her campaign at the WTA Tournament of Champions, going down 6-2 6-1 to Garbine Muguruza in her opening match in Sofia. The Russian lost her serve five times in a one-sided match in Group Serdika that lasted just 69 minutes.
