49ers to pass on franchise tag in 2015

Monday at 4pm marks the deadline for teams to franchise their impending free agents, but don't expect the 49ers to use theirs on Michael Crabtree , Mike Iupati , Frank Gore , Chris Culliver or Perrish Cox , meaning they'll become unrestricted free agents on March 10. As of now, San Francisco has a little under $2M in cap room, and with Stevie Johnson on the bubble to either take a pay cut or be released, the 49ers stand to gain some flexibility, but not enough to warrant a franchise tag. Michael Crabtree alone would eat up almost $12M if the franchise tag were placed on him.
